EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a treatment which assists with resolving and healing traumatic thoughts, memories and emotions.
The procedure involves rapid eye movements (as occurs in REM sleep) being induced while individual’s focus on disturbing material (eg: thoughts, images, memories, feelings or body sensations, from a previous trauma).
EMDR facilitates this process by allowing individuals to reprocess disturbing material with less emotional intensity and replace these with new positive ideas and concepts.
